As the third residence we'd had the opportunity to landscape for this wonderful couple, we knew the creativity and sense of play that could be explored, and would be encouraged.
Several magnificent Quercus agrifolia ( or Valley Oaks ), border this property. The newly constructed, beautifully designed home inspired our selected fencing, color for the exterior, and bluestone multi flagstone pathways, low stacked wall, patio, and built in barbecue.
We mutually decided to opt for non lawn solutions, choosing to plant Nephrolepis (Sword Ferns), underplanted with violets, and ceratostigma for the front, with Magnolia, Camellia, and Hydrangea borders. In the walled rear garden,Roses, Jasmines, Osmanthus, culinary herbs, Brugmansias and Daylilies provided fragrance and flowers for cutting. An eclectic "waterless pond " filled with tumbled glass, and surrounded with agaves and desert plants, was placed as an enclosed " view garden "outside the Master bath.
In addition to our clients' enjoyment, we were told that the neighborhood children loved to visit the front -fern garden, where they believed the "fairies" lived............
