This Ranch style home in Santa Ynez Valley, CA, is home to a businessman, and his wife, a successful jewelry designer, their family, extended family, friends, horses, chickens, dogs, and a tortoise named Henry. Tennis, horse back riding, swimming, and entertaining rule the weekends. Our directive was year- round color, roses, roses, and more roses, with nothing over 4' in the rear, so that the magnificent view would be enhanced, but never obstructed.
The pool and surrounding patio were super-sized to accommodate large groups, using materials that would blend with the natural surroundings. Design layout is scrupulously geometric, with low boxwood hedges and selected plantings placed symmetrically, to balance otherwise unstructured plantings.
The owner, who commutes weekly, piloting his plane, remarked recently that he loves coming home to his refuge. As he enters the gates, the beauty of the surroundings have him noticing color, fragrance, even the birds, in ways he never has before.......
